We invite you to join our new educational and hands-on project dedicated to traditional Ukrainian clothing.
The project consists of two parts, allowing you to choose the format that suits you best.
Open lectures & workshops “What Ukraine wears”
Once a month, we will meet for a participative public lecture dedicated to a specific element of traditional Ukrainian clothing: outerwear, headwear, footwear, and accessories.
There will be four lectures in total held by A.Khomenko & N.Klymiuk
Each lecture will be followed by a practical workshop by A.Kharyk & U.Bun where participants can create a traditional decorative element of Ukrainian clothing with their own hands.
You can attend one lecture or all four. No previous experience is required.

Practical embroidery course “My own vyshyvanka”

Two permanent groups will be formed:
— The Hague: sessions will take place at The Hague Central Library in collaboration with Embroidery Club Vytivka, under the guidance of Olha Andrushchenko.
— Rotterdam: sessions will take place at the Ukrainian House under the guidance of Iryna Umanets, co-founder of Rotterdam’s embroidery community.
Over the course of four months, each group will meet twice a month to work on individual pieces.
Ten participants per city will embroider a traditional element of Ukrainian clothing — a kyshenka (decorative pocket).
In each city, three participants with previous embroidery experience will be selected to create a complete traditional vyshyvanka (embroidered shirt) from start to finish. As this process requires considerable time, effort, and commitment, participants will be chosen through a selection process.
Our experienced craftswomen will provide all the necessary materials, as well as guidance and support throughout the entire process.
Participation in both parts of the project is free, but donations are welcome.
